EastEnders' Kat Moon issues Lynne Slater update

EastEnders' Kat Moon has delivered a fleeting update on her sister, Lynne Slater, and fans will not be happy. During Thursday's (October 22) episode of the BBC soap, Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) was the topic of conversation among the Moons and Slaters as her funeral is scheduled to take place next week.

Zoe's Tragic Death

Last month, Zoe died suddenly after hitting her head while stealing a taxi cab with her mum, Kat (Jessie Wallace), finding her lifeless body. Max Branning (Jake Wood) was the last person to see Zoe alive but failed to help after thinking her odd behaviour was due to being drunk, rather than a serious head injury.

A police investigation informed Kat that Zoe had tried to call 999 hours before her death and confirmed that there had been another person present before her death, leaving Kat hellbent on finding out who "left Zoe to die". On Thursday, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) suggested to his wife, Kat, that, as Zoe loved listening to her brothers play their recorders, they should perform at her funeral.

Kat's Firm Decision

Shutting down the idea, Kat stated: "It will traumatise them, they are too young", before failing to reason with Alfie. She added: "They are not going, and that is that."

Later in the episode, Bert and Ernie (Elliot and Cody Briffett) were joined by Big Mo (Laila Morse), Jean (Gillian Wright), Tommy (Sonny Kendall) and their dad Alfie as they performed a tune on their recorder, but Kat was not happy. "We have been praticising, for Zoe", the siblings explained to their mum.

"It's beautiful," a bemused Kat told her sons as Big Mo chipped in: "Yeah, you could go on Britain's Got Talent with that, earn a few quid".

Lynne Won't Return

Full of enthusiasm, Alfie added that they needed to fine-tune their performance, as Kat rejected the idea of them attending. She also confirmed that her sister Lynne would not be returning to Walford for the sad event.

"So I thought you could stay at Auntie Lynne's instead, yeah? She loves to hear you play," Kat added as Ernie agreed: "She lets us stay up late gaming."

Lynne (portrayed by Elaine Lordan) first graced Walford in 2000, joining the Slater family, which included father Charlie (Derek Martin), sisters Kat and Little Mo (Kacey Ainsworth), niece Zoe, and grandmother Big Mo. As the eldest of the Slater sisters, Lynne was central to numerous major storylines. Her tumultuous relationship with husband Garry Hobbs (Ricky Groves) and involvement in a drink-driving incident ensured her time in Albert Square was filled with drama.

However, Lynne departed from Walford in 2004 following the tragic loss of her unborn child, leading to her split from Garry. She hasn't returned since.

EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
