The BBC has made a last-minute schedule change tonight, moving both EastEnders and The One Show to BBC Two to make way for a special news programme on the Air India plane crash. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, bound for London Gatwick from Ahmedabad, crashed shortly after take-off on Thursday, killing at least 204 people. The plane was carrying 242 passengers and crew, including 53 British nationals.
BBC EastEnders confirmed the change on X, stating: "There's a schedule change for tonight's (Thursday 12th) episode of #EastEnders. We'll be on @BBCTwo at 7.30pm." The One Show will also air on BBC Two at 7pm, with its usual live slot replaced by a BBC News Special: Air India Plane Crash, hosted by Maryam Moshiri.
British man Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is believed to be the only survivor. He suffered impact injuries to his chest, eyes and feet, and said the crash happened "all so quickly" after a loud noise 30 seconds after take-off. His brother Ajay Kumar Ramesh, 45, was among the victims. Three Britons have been confirmed dead: Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa, and their four-year-old daughter Sara.
Gloucester Muslim Community paid tribute to the family on Facebook, saying: "During this moment of overwhelming sorrow, our hearts go out to all those left behind. No words can truly ease the pain of such a profound loss, but we pray that the family may find solace in the tremendous outpouring of compassion and solidarity from communities across the world."
