EastEnders fans are convinced Chelsea Fox is the bride on New Year's Day, but they predict her groom is Sean Slater, not Max Branning. Viewers of the BBC soap are weeks away from the New Year's Day flashforward being resolved, after a special episode aired on January 1, 2026, showing chaos unfolding around Max (Jake Wood) exactly one year on.
Since then, fans have been watching for clues about the mysteries set up in the episode, with theories flying about what is to come. Max appears to be getting married on January 1, 2027, but the bride remains a mystery. He is already married and separated from Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) before restarting a relationship with Linda Carter (Kellie Bright). In the flashforward scene, Linda and Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) were also revealed as potential brides.
Fans spot chemistry between Chelsea and Sean
Chelsea could be seen getting ready, holding up bridal attire, suggesting she is a potential bride. In the flashforward, Chelsea's sister Libby Fox (Belinda Owusu) has also returned to Walford. Fans are now convinced Chelsea is getting married and predict her groom to be her former boyfriend Sean Slater (Robert Kazinsky), who has made a permanent return to Walford, after spotting obvious chemistry between the two.
Taking to X, one fan asked: "Is Chelsea the bride and Sean is another groom? #eastenders". A second stated: "So… Am I allowed to ship Chelsea and Sean…? Because the chemistry is there. I know a bit of the history, but it's been two decades."
A third chimed in: "I really hope they go into an enemies-to-lovers story with Chelsea and Sean. I love their chemistry and how he supports her, and how Sean is the only one she’s talked to fully #eastenders." "You can cut the sexual tension with Chelsea and Sean with a knife - they are so gonna get it on! #Eastenders", pointed out one viewer. On Reddit, another fan commented: "So now we know who Chelsea marries on NYD", as another replied: "Sean".
What happened between Chelsea and Sean in EastEnders?
This week on the BBC soap, Sean returned to the Square for the funeral of Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan), but also leaped into action to assist Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) with helping to find his missing daughter Amy (Ellie Dadd). Chelsea wasn't happy to see Sean back in Walford. She commented that he was the enemy, and questioned why Jack had brought him in to help search for Amy. However, Sean quickly pointed out that her dislike for him was rich, considering the last time he saw her, she was being carted off to prison.
Sean and Chelsea have a long history, having started dating shortly after he arrived in Walford in 2006. It didn't take Sean long to cheat on Chelsea (played then by Tiana Benjamin) with her step-sister Carly Wicks (Kellie Shirley), and the pair fell out. When Patrick Trueman (Rudolph Walker) was attacked and left for dead, Chelsea and Deano Wicks (Matt Di Angelo) framed Sean for the attack, and he was sent to prison for the crime. Sean also cut off Chelsea's hair in a revenge attack. When Carly found CCTV footage that proved Sean’s innocence, Deano and Chelsea were charged with perverting the course of justice.
Will Chelsea and Sean rekindle their romance?
The pair were jailed for three months for their involvement. EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
