EastEnders aired a dramatic double departure on Monday night as Amy Mitchell and police officer Craig fled Walford, with Jack Branning unable to stop them. The scenes, part of an ongoing grooming storyline, have left fans fearing for Amy's safety.
Amy's Secret Plan Unravels
Amy had just convinced her uncle Max Branning to sign the papers she needed to access her trust fund. She offered him a cut of the money if he secretly helped her, planning to flee with her own funds. Amy has been in a secret relationship with Craig, a colleague of her dad Jack, who has been grooming her and manipulating her to isolate her from loved ones.
After Max signed the papers, he told Amy she had to tell Jack about Craig. Craig, clearly worried, moved quickly. As Max raced to tell Jack about Amy and Craig, it was too late—Max's son Oscar had spotted Amy packing her bags into Craig's car boot, preparing to escape.
Fans React to the Escape
Jack rushed out to stop them but could only watch as Craig sped out of Walford with Amy. Fans took to social media to express their fears. One fan said: "Max tried to do the right thing but too little too late and Amy and Craig got away. Poor Amy, I don't think she'll die but she'll definitely be hurt by Craig, this won't end well for her."
Another fan commented: "Oh Max you’ve totally messed up here. Poor Amy and poor Jack." A third added: "I have a horrible feeling about what Craig might do to Amy and what his big plan is now that they've fled."
Questions Over the 'Secret'
Some viewers pointed out a perceived mistake, questioning how Max had to tell Jack about Craig and Amy given they have been meeting publicly for weeks. One fan said: "You're telling me no-one else has spotted Craig & Amy when they are so publicly meeting up all the time #EastEnders and yes, it 'ain't real' but still needs to be believable."
Another added: "Sorry but you have to laugh at Craig having his hood up in the middle of the Square whilst talking to Amy knowing Jack is onto him when he's literally been public with Amy the whole time they've been together."
Whether Amy and Craig return remains to be seen, and it is unclear if Jack can stop Craig. EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7:30pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
