Denis Villeneuve has unveiled the first trailer for 'Dune: Part Three' at a special event in Los Angeles, introducing Robert Pattinson as the shape-shifting villain Scytale. The film, inspired by Frank Herbert's 'Dune: Messiah', jumps 17 years after the events of 'Part Two' and follows Paul Atreides as he grapples with the consequences of his holy war.
Stars Zendaya and Javier Bardem joined Villeneuve at the screening, along with franchise newcomers Anya Taylor-Joy and Pattinson. Timothée Chalamet, who plays Paul, appeared via video message, praising Villeneuve as 'the master of cinema'. The director said the overwhelming response to the second film prompted him to fast-track the trilogy's conclusion.
The teaser opens with a flashback of Paul and Chani discussing baby names, hinting at future plot points. Paul's internal conflict is central, with voiceover lines like 'War feeds on itself'. The footage also features first glimpses of Pattinson's Scytale, with icy stares and shock-blonde hair, though his voice is not yet heard.
Villeneuve described the threequel as having a different tone and rhythm from its predecessors. 'If the first movie was more of a contemplation, like a boy exploring a new world, and the second was a war epic, this one is something else,' he said. The cast also includes Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, and Jason Momoa as Hayt.
Warner Bros. released character posters alongside the trailer, building anticipation for the film's release. The event included a Q&A with the cast, moderated by Reece Feldman, where they teased the epic scale and emotional depth of the concluding chapter.
