Chi Chi DeVayne, the drag queen known for appearing on RuPaul's Drag Race, has died at the age of 34. The performer, whose legal name was Zavion Davenport, featured on season eight of the show and later on season three of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars.
DeVayne had been hospitalised twice this year for health issues. In July, she revealed on Instagram that she was being treated for kidney failure. Last week, she posted that she was back in hospital with pneumonia, asking fans to 'keep me in your prayers'.
RuPaul paid tribute to DeVayne, saying he was 'heartbroken' to learn of her death. 'I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul,' he said in a statement. 'She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.'
DeVayne first appeared on Drag Race in 2016, impressing judges with her wit and creativity. Her lip sync to 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going' from Dreamgirls is considered iconic. She finished fourth on her season and eighth on All Stars.
In 2018, DeVayne was diagnosed with scleroderma, a chronic condition that affects internal organs. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
