Michael C. Hall is reprising his role as serial killer Dexter Morgan in the new spin-off series 'Dexter: Resurrection', despite the character seemingly dying at the end of 2021's 'Dexter: New Blood'. The show picks up with Morgan surviving a gunshot wound from his son Harrison, continuing his story in what Hall describes as a 'wildly improbable return'.
Hall revealed that the idea for the revival came from him, suggesting that Morgan might not have died. 'What if the end of New Blood was something that enabled Dexter to relinquish some burden that he'd been carrying for a long time?' he said. The actor cited 'time passing, perspective shifting' and a desire to collaborate with the show's team as reasons for returning.
The new season features a star-studded cast including Peter Dinklage as a billionaire venture capitalist, Uma Thurman as his head of security, and Neil Patrick Harris, Eric Stonestreet, Krysten Ritter, and David Dastmalchian as villains. Hall teased a plot involving 'a gathering of unsavoury' characters, though he avoided spoilers.
Hall also addressed the prequel series 'Dexter: Original Sin', which aired earlier this year with Patrick Gibson playing a younger Morgan. Hall provided voiceover for that show but did not appear on screen. He admitted it was 'very strange' to see another actor embody the character, but it did not drive his return to the role.
