Ben Miller, who played DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise, has returned to screens in the second series of BBC comedy Austin, now available on iPlayer. Fans have expressed their delight, with many calling him the show's 'best detective'.
Ben Miller's Return to BBC Comedy
The actor shared the news on Instagram, posting a video saying: 'Hello there, I just wanted to let you know that season two of Austin is finally out on the BBC. It's on iPlayer, there it is. There we go, season two available on iPlayer right now!'
In Austin, Miller plays Julian Hartswood, a children's author whose career is derailed by a social media scandal. Episodes three and four of the new run aired last night and are now available to watch.
Fans React to Miller's Return
Miller first captured audiences as the uptight DI Richard Poole in Death in Paradise, a role he played from 2011 until his character was killed off at the start of series three in 2014. Kris Marshall replaced him as DI Humphrey Goodman.
Following his return, fans took to social media. One wrote: 'I have been patiently waiting for Austin series 2! Absolutely love it.' Another shared: 'So glad to see you back on screens, miss you on Death in Paradise, you were the best detective.' A third said: 'Love Austin and agree you really were the best.'
Other Projects for Ben Miller
Beyond Austin, Miller is set to return to ITV's Professor T and has released a new adult thriller novel titled A Very Dangerous Pursuit. The book reimagines the protagonist of John Buchan's The Thirty-Nine Steps in a story set in 1912.
Speaking to the BBC, Miller said: 'I wanted to write a thriller. I love thrillers. I wanted to write a really dynamic thriller. This one's set in 1912, so it's the very, very beginning of all the technology that we love in spy stories. The main character takes one of the very first airplane flights in this pursuit that he goes on. He rides on one of the very first motorbikes.'
All episodes of Austin series two are available to stream now on BBC iPlayer.
