Davies Returns with Thriller Tip Toe on Channel 4

Russell T Davies, the acclaimed writer behind It's A Sin and Queer as Folk, makes his highly anticipated return to Channel 4 with a gripping new five-part suburban thriller titled Tip Toe. The series, which stars Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, is already being hailed as a must-watch for fans of Davies' previous work.

A Brutal New Drama

Premiering five years after the success of It's A Sin, Tip Toe delves into the most destructive forces threatening the LGBTQ+ community today. The drama investigates how prejudice gradually infiltrates everyday life, focusing on two neighbours in Manchester: bar owner Leo, played by Alan Cumming, and electrician Clive, portrayed by David Morrissey.

The official synopsis describes the series as a tense suburban thriller: "Just as life should be settling down, the world around them is growing more tense. Words become weapons, opinions become radicalised, and gradually, two neighbours become deadly enemies." The show challenges everything we consider safe, bringing a spotlight to the re-emergence of an incipient threat.

Star Power and Real-Life Friendship

Alan Cumming and David Morrissey, who are real-life friends of 40 years, appeared on ITV's This Morning on Monday, May 18, to discuss the series. After viewing the tense trailer, Cumming described it as "overwhelming and brutal," adding that it's "a tough watch." He explained: "It's a story about two neighbours that goes haywire, but it's about the way that violence and hatred are sort of normalised so much in our culture nowadays. It's hopefully a wake-up call for everybody."

Morrissey praised Davies' storytelling, noting how the writer "plays with the timeframe brilliantly," allowing viewers to feel they know the characters before revealing new layers. He also credited his long friendship with Cumming for helping them tackle the more challenging scenes.

A Return to Manchester and Canal Street

A quarter of a century after Queer as Folk, Davies returns to Manchester and Canal Street with a powerful tale that resonates beyond the queer community. Davies stated: "It's my honour to combine my old home, Channel 4, with my second home, Canal Street. This is a show I had to write because the world is getting stranger, tougher and darker, and frankly, the fight is on."

Ollie Madden, Director of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama, added: "It is a huge privilege to back this remarkable new series from Russell, one of the greatest writers of our time. We couldn't love Tip Toe more: it is funny, gripping, full of heart, and an urgent call to arms."

Tip Toe premieres on Channel 4 on Sunday, May 31.
