Danny Dyer has been taking secret dance lessons with daughter Dani's Strictly Come Dancing pro partner Nikita Kuzmin, and the Ukrainian professional says the actor is surprisingly good.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain after their Halloween Viennese Waltz, Nikita and Dani Dyer discussed what happens behind the scenes. Host Susanna Reid asked Nikita if he was teaching the Rivals star some new moves, and Dani, 30, laughed as Nikita, 28, admitted to the extra lessons.
Nikita Praises Danny's Dancing
"Yes, that is true," Nikita said. "And you might see in this week's VT [video tape], but I was trying to be the lead and Danny Dyer just took me, swept me off my feet and there was no chance for me to be the lead."
Nikita added that Danny is "really good," complimenting the actor's "good frame" and "good delivery," and highlighting that he "really drives through the steps."
Proud Dad in the Audience
Danny, 49, has been seen in the Strictly audience several times this series, cheering for his daughter in the live studio. Dani previously shared how proud her dad was when she returned to the dancefloor after last year's knee injury forced her to pull out of the competition.
"He loved it, he was super proud," she said. "He rang me the next day to tell me. There was no one I could have wanted more than them in the audience. It was the best having them there. They were so super proud of me. I got flowers and biscuits. It was gorgeous."
Danny Returns to Screens in Rivals
Her comments come days before Danny returns to screens as Freddie Jones in Rivals. The character is a departure from type for Danny, who often plays ultra macho men. As Freddie, he is brains over brawn and disarmingly charming in an awkward way.
Rivals returns to Disney on 11 November, picking up after the death of Monica Baddingham (Claire Rushbrook). In the new episodes, Freddie and author Lizzie Vereker (Katherine Parkinson) continue their affair, but things take a turn as their feelings about cheating on their spouses become complicated.
Nikita's compliments on Danny's dancing may not surprise viewers of the first season, which features a scene where Freddie dances to Jermaine Stewart's 'We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off' with little hesitation.
All episodes of Season 1 and the first six episodes of Season 2 are available to stream now on Disney+. Season 2 part two launches on November 11 with three episodes, and the final three episodes, 10-12, will be released weekly after. Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday evening on BBC One.
