Corrie's Debbie retires and signs hotel to Ronnie and Ryan

Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) is set to make a huge decision in upcoming Coronation Street scenes that will mark the end of an era for the businesswoman.

Next week, Debbie announces to Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) that she is retiring and has signed the hotel over to him and Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott). It is a huge step, given how much the hotel means to her, but an understandable decision given her dementia diagnosis.

A Girls Night With a Surprise Purpose

The change comes after Debbie organises a girls night with her closest friends – Abi Webster (Sally Carman), Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove), Christina Boyd (Amy Robbins), Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) and Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger). The goal is to have them help her organise a surprise for Carl Webster's (Jonathan Howard) 40th birthday.

Once the women have gathered, Debbie empties a plastic crate onto the carpet to reveal hundreds of photographs taken over the years and explains how she needs their help to make a photo book for him.

Tensions Rise and Resolve

Though it starts off as a fun evening, tensions rise between the group and a heated confrontation over family history and past traumas derails the celebrations. Some of the characters end up confiding in one another, while others are left facing difficult decisions about the future.

Fortunately, by the end of the evening, the air is cleared and the women are once again united, though several of them still have big decisions to make.

What's Next for Debbie?

But now that Debbie has handed the hotel over to her hubby, what does the future have in store for her? Actress Sue Devaney previously joked with Metro that Debbie would enjoy taking a trip over to Emmerdale. 'I think she's going to get in a car and drive over to the Dales and have lovely weekend in the Dales,' she told us at the Cure Usher Ball.

'I think she'd enjoy that, wouldn't she? She really would. Especially now that she's retired. She's got time to just take day trips! So, who knows?'
