Coronation Street viewers are unhappy with the direction Tyrone Dobbs' character is taking in the ITV soap, as long-lost father Ross Wilkes encourages violent behaviour. In Monday's episode (October 26), Tyrone punched Chesney Brown in the face, leaving Fiz devastated and horrified.
Ross's Toxic Influence Grows
Ross Wilkes' increasingly toxic behaviour is raising fresh concerns, as his latest actions leave Tyrone feeling uncomfortable and hint that his controlling nature could become even more troubling. Fans will remember Ross' arrival in Weatherfield back in July, when his presence quickly caused tension between Cassie Plummer and her son, Tyrone, after he was revealed to be Tyrone's long-lost father.
The shocking revelation came after Tyrone's children, Hope and Ruby, used a DNA database to track down his father as a birthday surprise. However, the discovery proved devastating for Cassie, who had unknowingly made a drunken pass at Ross at the Chariot Square Hotel, unaware of his true identity.
Backstory and Threats
After deciding to build a relationship with his newly discovered son, Ross also embarked on a romance with Tracy Barlow. But while Tyrone and Tracy welcomed him into their lives, Cassie was determined to expose his disturbing past. During a gathering organised by the Dobbs family to welcome Ross, Cassie finally snapped and revealed that he had paid her for sex when she was just 15, resulting in her falling pregnant with Tyrone.
Despite the shocking revelation, Tyrone and Tracy were reluctant to cut Ross out of their lives. Ross agreed to apologise to Cassie, seemingly paving the way for a fresh start. However, his apparent willingness to make amends did not last long. Ross later threatened Cassie's life if she tried to interfere with his attempts to build a relationship with Tyrone, exposing the threatening and manipulative behaviour beneath his attempts to become part of the family.
Violence Escalates
Over the past couple of weeks, Ross has gone to considerable lengths to push Tyrone towards adopting his own toxic and outdated views on masculinity. Determined to "toughen him up", Ross bought a pair of boxing gloves and encouraged Tyrone's son, Dorin, to give them a go. When Dorin showed little interest, Ross turned his attention to Tyrone, pressuring him to put on the gloves instead.
Things became even more complicated when Tyrone's daughter, Ruby, expressed an interest in joining a boxing club. Tyrone immediately voiced concerns about her getting hurt, prompting Fiz Dobbs and Hope to call him out for his seemingly sexist attitude.
In Monday's episode, Tyrone discovered that Dorin had been left with a bruise after being hit by Chesney Winter-Brown's son, Aled. Ross was quick to condemn the incident, insisting that Fiz should confront her brother and give him a stern talking-to. In Ross's view, failing to address Aled's behaviour could set him on a path towards becoming violent.
Tyrone decided to take matters into his own hands, confronting Chesney and declaring that Dorin would no longer be allowed to play with Aled. However, when Ross arrived, he began goading Tyrone, encouraging him not to back down or allow Chesney to speak to him disrespectfully. Under his father's influence, Tyrone's attempt to assert himself took a disturbing turn when he punched Chesney in the face.
Fan Reaction
Fiz was left devastated and horrified by Tyrone's actions, making it clear that she wanted nothing to do with him. With his relationship in turmoil, Tyrone found himself heading to the pub with Ross, where his father continued to reinforce his toxic and deeply outdated beliefs. When Fiz eventually appeared, Tyrone tried to approach her, but Ross intervened, insisting that he should be the one in control. "You're the boss. Not Fiz, or anyone else," Ross told him.
Now, fans have hit back at the ITV soap over the scene. On X (formerly known as Twitter), @rjc99999 said: "Ross is a conniving and nasty bully, wake up snd smell the coffee Tyrone", as @drswarla2025 added: "Ross is a nasty piece of work and isn't a good influence for Tyrone". @lornawatts agreed: "Tyrone is slowly becoming Ross, because of his manipulation".
