Coronation Street: Jodie's fate revealed after shooting

Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances-Brown) has been shot in Coronation Street, but according to reports, she will survive the ordeal. The character, introduced at the start of the year during ITV's Corriedale episode, arrived in Weatherfield in the back of Graham Foster's (Andrew Scarborough) van following a multi-vehicle pile-up.

Jodie is Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) sister, but she came to the cobbles with revenge in mind, hellbent on destroying her sibling's life. When not focused on her revenge, Jodie meddles with other residents including Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove), Brian Packham (Peter Gunn) and Lily Platt (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner).

Why Jodie wants to destroy Shona

Speaking previously, Olivia revealed why Jodie is so convinced she needs to destroy Shona: 'It's all about her warped mind.' She explained, 'Jodie has convinced herself that David symbolises her potential for future happiness. She's lost the plot a little bit and truly believes David is the answer to all her wants and needs – which obviously isn't reality! She's just completely hooked on that idea now.'

Jodie hates Shona for leaving her at the mercy of their mentally-unwell dad Doug (Steve Evets) when she was a child. Shona was a pregnant teenage mum desperate to escape, but Jodie is not interested in excuses.

Olivia shared, 'She practically worships Shona. So much so that they've got matching tattoos. But those feelings are mixed with animosity that comes from childhood abandonment.'

The shooting and what comes next

In today's episode, the storyline between David, Shona and Jodie takes a massive turn when Jodie believes David no longer wishes to be with his wife. As she talks about wanting to be with David since they met, Jodie fails to realise David has secretly called Shona. Shona bursts in and confronts her sister about her secrets and lies.

Sensing her plan is falling apart, Jodie grabs the gun she has been hiding and points it at David and Shona. The couple believe the weapon is fake. When Shona attempts to grab it, the two women scuffle and the gun goes off. The episode ends with Jodie shot in the stomach.

According to The Sun, Olivia Frances-Brown has signed a new contract with the ITV soap, meaning she will play Jodie for at least another year. This means Jodie will survive the shooting – but what comes next remains to be seen.
