Coronation Street viewers are speculating that Ronnie Bailey could embark on a shock affair as tensions grow in his marriage to Debbie Webster. The theory follows recent episodes in which Debbie reconnected with Paula, a woman she met in prison earlier this year.
Ronnie, played by Vinta Morgan, first appeared on the ITV soap in 2021 and quickly became a firm favourite. His storylines have included his romance and marriage to Debbie Webster, played by Sue Devaney, whom he wed earlier this year, as well as his own family drama.
Debbie's Dementia and Recent Storylines
Debbie's behaviour has become increasingly erratic in recent months as her dementia has worsened. She was diagnosed with vascular dementia last year. This week, Debbie reconnected with Paula, played by Kelli Hollis, whom she first met in prison earlier this year.
Paula took Adam Barlow's engagement ring, and in Monday's episode, Debbie met with Paula and demanded the ring back. Later, Debbie returned the engagement ring to Adam and Alya.
Fan Theories About a Potential Affair
With things not going well between Debbie and Ronnie, some fans believe an affair could be on the cards. One person on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page said, "I really hope they don't split up Debbie and Ronnie or have him have an affair with someone."
Another fan suggested Fiona Morley, the dodgy businesswoman Ronnie previously dated, as a possible love interest. They wrote, "Probably that Fiona." A third fan added, "I thought the same, she's made it clear to him in the past that she's interested, poor Debbie."
Sue Devaney on Leaving the Soap
Earlier this year, Debbie star Sue Devaney spoke about leaving Coronation Street. She told BANG Showbiz, "I think when an actor gets to a certain age they think, 'This is quite nice. I can go home every night, I can have my tea, I'm not living out of a suitcase.'"
She added, "And it's nice to have a regular wage, because as an actor you never know what's next. So as you get older you think, 'This is quite nice.' But if it's not to be, it's not to be. It's only in soap where you think, 'I've got a job for a while.' But we never know when it's going to come to an end, or the character is going to be killed off, so you just have to make the most of it."
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
