A guest on the BBC's Antiques Roadshow was left astonished after learning that a cigar once owned by Winston Churchill was worth £2,000.
The woman brought in her late French father-in-law's Second World War medals for valuation by expert Mark Smith. However, lacking proper certification, the medals were valued at just £120.
Hidden inside a tube alongside the medals was a cigar addressed to her father-in-law from Churchill, accompanied by a newspaper clipping. The clipping explained that Churchill had given cigars to French soldiers during a meeting.
Smith confirmed the cigar's authenticity and valued it at £2,000, leaving the guest gasping. He noted that Churchill's cigars are iconic and highly sought after.
This is not the first time Churchill memorabilia has appeared on the show; in 2019, his top hat and cigar, discovered in a rubbish tip, were valued at £10,000.
