Netflix has confirmed that filming has begun on the fourth season of Ryan Murphy's true-crime anthology series Monster, with Charlie Hunnam returning to the franchise. Hunnam previously starred as serial killer Ed Gein in the third season, Monster: The Ed Gein Story.
The upcoming season will focus on Lizzie Borden, who was tried and acquitted for the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Actress Ella Beatty will portray Borden, marking her first role in the Monster universe.
Hunnam will play Andrew Borden, one of Lizzie Borden's victims, shifting from his previous role as the killer. The cast also includes Vicky Krieps as Bridget Sullivan, Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Billie Lourd as Emma Borden, and Jessica Barden as Nancy O'Neill.
Season three, which delved into the story of Ed Gein, quickly rose to Netflix's number one spot. Hunnam previously addressed concerns about sensationalism, stating he felt the production handled the story with sincerity and without gratuitous shock value.
The first two seasons of Monster covered serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez. The fourth season is now in production.
