The BBC's period drama series 'The Musketeers', praised for its swashbuckling action and great chemistry, is now available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The show originally aired from 2014 to 2016, spanning three series with ten episodes each.
Set in 17th-century Paris, the series offers a modern reimagining of Alexandre Dumas's classic novel. It follows elite bodyguards Athos, Aramis, Porthos, and the young d'Artagnan as they protect King Louis XIII and the citizens from threats including corrupt officials and foreign enemies.
The cast includes Tom Burke as Athos, Santiago Cabrera as Aramis, Howard Charles as Porthos, and Luke Pasqualino as d'Artagnan, under the command of Hugo Speer's Captain Treville. High-profile actors played the main villains: Peter Capaldi as Cardinal Richelieu in series one, Marc Warren as Comte de Rochefort in series two, and Rupert Everett as Marquis de Feron in series three.
Created by Adrian Hodges, the series was a hit and praised for its gritty, modern take on the classic story. Filmed primarily in the Czech Republic, it received high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers have called it 'a fresh take', 'one of my favourite seasons of TV ever', and 'absolute perfect'.
One reviewer noted: 'A fun and enjoyable retelling of the classic story. I really enjoyed this show and am actually giving it a second watch.' Another commented on the British accents in a French setting but added that 'the stories are still great and the actors are fabulous.'
