Old cooking video of Meghan Markle resurfaces after MasterChef Australia appearance
Meghan Markle faces backlash after old cooking video

An old cooking video of Meghan Markle has re-emerged on social media after the Duchess of Sussex appeared as a surprise guest judge on MasterChef Australia.

The 44-year-old mother-of-two featured on the popular cooking programme broadcast on Channel 10. She entered the kitchen after footage was recorded during her visit to Australia with Prince Harry in April.

Meghan has established herself as a cooking enthusiast with her lifestyle and cooking brand, As Ever, which launched in April 2025. She has also demonstrated her culinary abilities in her Netflix programmes.

Criticism over chopping skills

Viewers were quick to highlight that Meghan seemed to struggle in the kitchen, with some asserting she has "no business" judging others on the programme. The resurfaced footage depicted the mother-of-two struggling to chop onions while cooking in her California kitchen.

On X, one individual posted: "She was given one of the most exclusive televised cooking shows to ever be made, and this is her level of chopping skills."

Another individual stated: "One of the many reminders why Meghan has no business judging anyone's food #MasterchefAU."

A third individual added: "For a start the chopping board should not be that crowded - just dreadful."

"Nobody holds a knife like that to chop vegetables. This is highly embarrassing," a fourth individual wrote.

Reports of dissatisfaction over 'royalty' introduction

This comes after reports suggesting Meghan and members of her team were reportedly dissatisfied after claims they asked MasterChef Australia producers not to describe her as 'royalty' after the show's main judge Poh Ling's introduction to her.

According to New Idea, the introduction left Poh feeling 'upset.' "It wasn't about Meghan personally," a source told the publication. "Poh felt she had been unintentionally drawn into a royal protocol issue she never intended to be part of."

Another insider claimed Poh had wished to contact Meghan directly to apologise, but was told to allow the production team to handle the situation instead.

"She was willing to reach out immediately," the source said. "But she was advised to leave it for production to handle."
