The BBC has recommissioned the hit comedy series The Young Offenders for a fifth series, bringing back the loveable rogues Conor and Jock for more hilarious misadventures. The new six-part series, produced by Vico Films in association with RTÉ, will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Created by Peter Foott and based on his original film, the fifth series sees Conor (Alex Murphy) and Jock (Chris Walley) reunited in Cork after spending series four in different prisons around the world. Alongside them return long-suffering mother/guardian Mairéad (Hilary Rose), former nemesis Garda Sergeant Tony Healy (Dominic MacHale), and the unpredictable Billy Murphy (Shane Casey).
The critically acclaimed show, set and filmed in Cork city and county, will feature all the beloved characters including Principal Walsh (PJ Gallagher), Siobhán (Jennifer Barry), Linda (Demi Isaac), Orla (Orla Fitzgerald), and Star (Rylee Hosford). Foott promises “the funniest, most heart-warming stories” with Conor and Jock getting into scrapes like never before.
Jon Petrie, BBC Director of Comedy, said: “We’re thrilled to reunite with Conor and Jock in Cork for more gloriously misguided misadventures. This fifth series is brimming with the wild heart, raucous charm and razor-sharp wit that have made The Young Offenders a true fan favourite.”
Since its debut in 2016, The Young Offenders has kept audiences entertained, with series four ranking among the top three comedies across broadcasters for 16–34-year-olds in 2024. The new series is directed by Duo Rosco 5, with Peter Foott as creator, writer, and executive producer.
