Women are often the noisier ones in the bedroom, but many wish their male partners would make more noise during sex, describing men's moans as 'the sexiest thing ever' and an instant turn-on.
Poll reveals disparity in bedroom noise
A poll by sex toy brand Lovehoney found that 94% of women felt they were louder than their partners during sex, and 70% of men agreed. The scientific term for sex noises is 'copulatory vocalisations', and many women are tired of being the only ones making a racket.
On Reddit, women shared their thoughts. One user, u/Elegant_Analyst_4976, wrote: 'I love hearing [my partner] enjoying himself and the ruggedness of his groan. Gets me even more riled too.' Another said: 'It’s sexy to hear that they’re enjoying it, and I find silent sex really awkward. I’m loud, and I’d like them to be loud too.'
Men's reasons for silence
Men had mixed feelings, with some saying they stayed quiet because that's what they saw in porn, and making noise made them feel 'like an idiot'. Others admitted they were silent to concentrate on lasting longer. One man, u/RobinGood94, explained: 'I am focused on not getting mentally sidetracked. I have a boner to maintain, so typically I am the one doing lots of thrusts and such. Feels great, but not typically moan-worthy.'
Expert advice
Research by audio erotic site Bloom Stories revealed that moaning is the biggest bedroom pleaser, with 94% of those aged 25 to 34 saying it's a 'sure-fire' way to boost arousal. Tiff Hudson, a BACP registered therapist, told Metro: 'Many women find it a turn on when a partner makes noise during sex because it’s clear, audible evidence that they’re enjoying themselves.'
Hudson encouraged men to 'start small and real', letting natural breathing lead, and to try simple lines like 'right there', 'more of that', or 'yes'. She added: 'Sound is information, intimacy, and invitation. When people allow themselves to be heard enjoying sex, partners feel more connected and better guided, and that’s what many find irresistibly hot.'
