BBC One's The One Show was abruptly taken off air on Wednesday evening after a fire alarm disrupted the live broadcast, sparking outrage among viewers. Presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones were in the middle of an interview with actress Tamsin Greig when the alarm sounded.
After several minutes of confusion, the 7pm show was replaced by a recording of cooking programme Simple Suppers. The incident left many viewers frustrated, with some taking to social media to express their discontent.
Later, presenter Alex Jones clarified the situation on Twitter, stating: 'Somebody was warming their tea up and the microwave set off the alarm!' A BBC spokesman confirmed there was no fire at the studio in White City, west London, but a handful of people were evacuated as a precaution.
The spokesman added: 'The One Show went off air tonight due to a fire alarm. We apologise to viewers for the interruption and normal service was resumed on BBC One as soon as possible.'
