BBC blocks Joanne McNally's Traitors podcast episode

Joanne McNally was forced to cancel a planned tell-all episode of her podcast about her time on Celebrity Traitors after the BBC said the recording violated signed contracts.

McNally, who co-hosts My Therapist Ghosted Me with Vogue Williams, had promised listeners a bonus episode detailing her experience on the show. The episode was scheduled for release on Sunday, days after the Celebrity Traitors final.

Podcast team announces scrapped episode

In the latest episode of the podcast, producer Joe Attewell revealed he had received “eight to nine thousand messages” asking about the bonus episode. He explained that the team recorded the tell-all on Friday afternoon, edited it quickly, and had it ready by about seven o'clock that evening.

Attewell said he was “bundled roughly into a BBC van” late on Friday evening, joking that the BBC told him “just about everything that had been spoken about on the podcast was a violation of contracts that had been signed.” McNally, who was a Faithful on the show, quipped: “We'd be taken to the gallows!”

Fans left wanting more details

Vogue Williams noted that the episode would have been “juicy” had it been released. “Turns out we can't say whatever we want. Sometimes you're not allowed to, but it was juicy!” she said.

McNally came close to reaching the final, which was won by Romesh Ranganathan and Sebastian “Bash” Croft, after being banished by fellow players. Viewers have been eager to learn what happened in the Scottish castle, particularly after James Acaster confessed to being a Traitor during one of the last round tables.

James Blunt comments on editing

James Blunt told BBC News that the sequence was significantly edited. “He didn't fall on his sword. That's what you saw, that's what you feel, but he didn't,” he said. “You didn't see the full extent of the interrogation. It was heavy in there and it was clear-cut. He was pinned to a post. We got him. We really, really got him.”

Blunt added that the full story “hasn't really been revealed” to viewers, explaining: “He didn't just say, 'Oh guys, you got me.'”
