The Great British Bake Off waved goodbye to Gary in its seventh week, as the judges confirmed the five bakers who will compete in the quarter finals. The 67-year-old from Nottinghamshire was eliminated during the episode aired on Tuesday, November 3, leaving Connie Lewis, Gabe Capes, Mo Mahirr, Moyin Odeniran and Tom Whittaker to continue in the competition.
Party Week Challenges
Hosted by Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond, the remaining bakers faced three challenges themed around 'party week'. The signature task required gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan bakes, with judges Paul Hollywood and Nigella Lawson on hand to comment and critique. The brief called for "delicious gluten free laminated pastries, perfect for a children's party".
Mo's toastie parcels earned a handshake from Paul Hollywood, prompting Nigella to add: "I salute Paul saluting you." The technical challenge, set by Nigella, asked the bakers to create an "adorable animal cake" — a plant-based chocolate cake with ganache and butter cream, with designs chosen by lucky dip.
Star Baker and Elimination
Tom, who was star baker the previous week, again came out on top, drawing the comment from Nigella: "Oh, it's getting quite boring." The showstopper required a "spectacular children's birthday cake" that was dairy-free, gluten-free or plant-based, with an interactive element.
Gabe was named star baker for his bug party cake. Paul and Nigella ultimately chose to send Gary home, who said an emotional goodbye before leaving the tent. The retired garment technologist added: "I'm very proud. It was my time to go. This was probably one of the best experiences I've had in my life."

Some fans raised concerns about the challenges, with one saying: "Hate to say it but some of the themes for bake off this series have been questionable."
