During a Saturday night performance of La La Land in Concert in Sydney, an unexpected musical hero emerged from the audience. After the orchestra's lead keyboardist fell ill and had to leave during the interval, Oscar-winning composer and conductor Justin Hurwitz turned to the 2,000-strong crowd and asked if there was an 'amazing sight reader' present.
A Star Is Born
Twenty-one-year-old Sterling Nasa answered the call. He suddenly found himself seated at a celeste keyboard he had never played before, facing a complex score he had never rehearsed. The piece included an intricate synthesiser solo, but Nasa rose to the occasion, delivering a flawless performance that earned him a standing ovation.
Impressing the Maestro
Hurwitz, who composed the Oscar-winning score for La La Land, later praised Nasa's composure and skill. 'It was incredible,' he told the audience. 'He saved the show.' The incident has since gone viral, with many applauding Nasa's bravery and talent.
The concert, held at the Sydney Opera House, featured a live orchestra performing the film's iconic music. Nasa's impromptu performance added an unforgettable moment to the evening, proving that sometimes the best performances come from the most unexpected places.
