A Remarkable Place to Die series two returns to U&Drama

A detective drama praised as ideal viewing for fans of Happy Valley and Broadchurch is returning to television. The second series of A Remarkable Place to Die begins on Freeview channel U&Drama at 9pm on Thursday 5 November.

For viewers unable to watch at broadcast time, the episodes are available to stream on U without additional charge. Those who missed the first series can catch up on the same platform or through Channel 4.

Detective Anais Mallory returns

The programme first premiered last year and followed Detective Anais Mallory as she returned to her hometown of Queenstown in New Zealand. She confronted numerous shocking murders while also dealing with ghosts from her past, and as she solved the mysteries she triggered a frantic cover-up.

Chelsie Preston Crayford reprises her role as Anais in the new series. The storyline continues from the events of the first series, with Detective Mallory still troubled by one unresolved question from her previous distressing case.

A trail leading to Europe

Following the discovery of Maja Staunton's body on display, Anais becomes convinced it is linked to an earlier murder and covertly begins her own inquiry. Her investigation rapidly draws unwelcome scrutiny, as somebody who knows she is probing is intent on halting her before she uncovers the truth.

As circumstances become increasingly perilous, the others slowly join forces, pursuing the trail that Maja left in her wake. Their investigation leads them from Queenstown to Europe, where they discover a connection to a sequence of chilling display murders worldwide, with victims arranged as twisted artistic installations.

Critical and viewer response

As evidence increasingly implicates those in the victim's inner circle, Anais confronts a desperate race against the clock to reveal the truth before another person becomes the latest addition to the killer's disturbing gallery. Running parallel to this central mystery are several distinctive cases requiring resolution, ranging from a fatal neighbourhood dispute concerning rabbits to a vanished priceless gemstone.

The first series garnered limited critical attention upon its initial broadcast, though one reviewer observed: "Episodes of A Remarkable Place To Die move along because both the episodic mystery and the continuing story are both very satisfying to follow. The stunning New Zealand scenery always helps."

Another critic described it as "Happy Valley meets Broadchurch". One viewer commented online: "This series was an absolute delight from start to finish, offering a captivating storyline that kept me thoroughly engaged throughout." Another said: "It's very compelling and visually stunning for location as well. I can't wait for more episodes!"

A Remarkable Place to Die airs at 9pm on U&Drama and is streaming on U and Channel 4.
