A Place in the Sun's Ben Hillman: water slide to house update

Ben Hillman, presenter of Channel 4's A Place in the Sun, has completed the purchase of a neglected micro-home in Shoreham, joking that he 'instantly regretted it' after collecting the keys. The property, which he calls Tiny House, is his latest renovation project.

New Project: Tiny House

In October 2026, Ben completed the purchase of the micro-home, which he had bought at auction in Shoreham. In early November, he confirmed he had collected the keys and shared footage of the neglected interior. He said: "Got the keys to Tiny House today. Instantly regretted it."

He described the property's condition, mentioning asbestos in the ceiling, pipes crawling round the walls, a floor that breathes, a lintel that wants me dead, and a boarded-up door nobody can explain. Followers offered their best wishes, with one writing: "Congratulations! Let the fun begin! Can't wait to watch your progress @benhillmantv."

Family and Past Projects

Ben lives in Shoreham-by-Sea with his wife Gaby, an NHS worker, and their two daughters, Hope Blossom and Honour Willow. He has been married to Gaby since 2011. His daughters regularly help with renovation projects, and he affectionately calls them his "DIY girls".

His property experience includes running his own interior design company and completing a self-build project in Brighton. After studying Product and Furniture Design at Ravensbourne College, Ben designed and launched F-LUX lighting, among the world's first portable LED lights.

Holiday Injury in 2022

In 2022, Ben required hospital treatment following a water slide accident that left him with an open fracture and dislocation. He was on a family holiday in France when he shared a photograph on Instagram showing himself in a hospital bed with a tray of food.

He posted: "Not the French cuisine I had in mind for the first day of our family holiday! Managed to acquire an open fracture/dislocation on the water slide." He explained that the bone had pierced his skin and urged followers to remember their travel insurance, adding: "Word to the wise, don't forget your travel insurance this summer. Have fun out there guys. Hats off to the French healthcare/emergency services."

Four weeks after the incident, he had a metal rod removed from his thumb. Comparing both hands, he remarked: "It's going to take some time to get it moving again. My thumb seems to have grown."
