A performer dressed as a werewolf has been filmed allegedly punching a 12-year-old girl in the face during a Halloween party at a restaurant in the Melbourne suburb of Templestowe. The incident was captured on camera at around 8.30pm on Friday, October 30.
The performer had been hired by the restaurant as part of its Halloween festivities and then reportedly fled the scene after the alleged assault. Police said the girl approached the 44-year-old man, who was in costume, and lightly punched him on the arm.
Footage shows the attack
A video seen by the Daily Star shows the ‘werewolf’ then striking the girl with a right hook that sends her flying backwards. “He punched her!” a person off camera is heard yelling.
The girl’s mother told local outlet 7NEWS that her daughter now has “cuts and bruises round her mouth” and requires dental work. The alleged victim is “seeing an orthodontist on Wednesday,” the mother said.
Witness describes the aftermath
“She had blood streaming out of her mouth – like a mountain of blood,” a witness told local news. “She had braces too – and then he just ran off after that.”
The performer allegedly fled the scene, but police have since identified the man, who is from the neighbouring suburb of Ferntree Gully. He is expected to be interviewed by investigators in the coming days, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault remain ongoing.
Hospital treatment
According to authorities, the 12-year-old spent the night in hospital following the alleged attack. The incident is not dissimilar to a tourist’s experience at a Philippines amusement park, dubbed “the world’s scariest.” In one clip from the park, a person dressed in a Bigfoot costume emerges from the jungle and strikes a little boy in the face. “That looked personal to me,” said one onlooker. “Do you like trauma? I know the place for you,” wrote another.
