Netflix has added the first three seasons of Will Trent, an intense crime drama adapted from Karin Slaughter's novels, and some subscribers already rate it above popular shows like High Potential and The Rookie.
The series centres on Special Agent Will Trent, who was abandoned at birth and grew up in Atlanta's foster-care system. Despite being dyslexic, he rose through the ranks at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, where he now holds the highest case clearance rate, a success that creates tension with colleagues.
Streaming availability and fan reactions
The show originally aired in the US in 2023. UK subscribers can now watch the first three seasons on Netflix, while the fourth series is available on Disney+, with a fifth season expected early next year.
Fans have taken to Reddit to compare it favourably with other procedurals. One viewer wrote: "I think most people will agree with this, but I haven't seen it mentioned before, so... Will Trent gets lumped together with The Rookie and High Potential but I think it's better, deeper, darker and funnier than the others."
Unique storytelling praised
Another fan said: "I think Will Trent stands alone. It is truly the most unique show, with the most intense scenes -- I feel the same way about them that I do when watching The Pitt."
One viewer added: "I jumped so hard in the first episode! I was hooked and couldn't stop! I gobbled up the first three episodes voraciously! I have been binge watching the series since."
Another drew a comparison to classic detective shows, writing: "I love this show it's like Monk combined with Elementary. Quirky Sherlock type with a bad upbringing and makes it work despite his dyslexia and his on-again-off-again relationship with a fellow cop."
Will Trent is streaming on Netflix and Disney+.
