Tyson Fury, a new Netflix documentary film exploring the boxer's mental health struggles, addiction and family life, will be available to stream from Friday, 27 November.
The film, titled Tyson Fury, features interviews with his wife Paris and father John and uses previously unseen archive footage to tell his story from childhood to boxing success. It also explores mental health struggles, addiction, the loss of a child and complex family relationships.
A deeply moving story behind the success
The synopsis reads: "Tracing his journey from childhood to the heights of boxing, the film tells the deeply moving story behind Tyson's success in the ring."
"Through candid interviews with Tyson, his wife Paris and his father John, alongside never-before-seen archive footage, it charts the triumphs and setbacks of his career, his struggles with mental health and addiction, the loss of a child, complex family relationships and the question of what it means to be a man."
Candid reflections in the trailer
In the trailer, Tyson speaks candidly about losing his sense of purpose. "I'd achieved all my childhood dreams but my whole point of existence had been taken away. I didn't want to live," he says.
He also says he was raised to show "no emotions" and looks back on his 2015 clash with Wladimir Klitschko as an "obsession". His father John says: "The effect it had on him was far deeper than I could ever imagine." Paris adds: "The Tyson that I knew was gone. And I was so scared." It is unclear whether these comments refer to the aftermath of the Klitschko fight or another significant period in Fury's career.
A different focus from the series
Unlike At Home with the Furys, the Netflix series featuring the 38-year-old boxer and his family, this film focuses on the personal challenges behind his achievements in and out of the ring.
Tyson himself adds: "The Gypsy King, no matter what you chuck at him, he will overcome it. But it wasn't about boxing, it was about trying to get well again."
The documentary arrives just months after At Home with the Furys secured a third series on Netflix. In its August programming announcement, the streaming service confirmed that filming was under way, with the series expected to air next year. The third series will feature Fury's daughter Venezuela's wedding to Noah Price, as well as the boxer's preparations for his comeback fight against Makhmudov ahead of the anticipated clash with Anthony Joshua.
