Celtic fan hit Rangers supporter with belt after cup tie

Kevin Prior, 44, attacked an unknown Rangers supporter with a belt at Ibrox after an Old Firm Scottish Cup tie. He pleaded guilty to breach of the peace and assaulting the man.

Disorder after the match

Rangers hosted Celtic on March 8 2026 in a Scottish Cup match that the visitors went on to win on penalties. Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that both sets of fans entered the pitch and carried out various acts of disorder after the game.

Prior, of Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, was in the Broomloan Road Stand with the Celtic support. He was seen to throw a number of objects at the Rangers fans while in the stands.

Attack and identification

Prior also shouted and repeatedly made gestures as well as challenged Rangers supporters to a fight. Prosecutor Abbas Ali said: "He was still in the stands but had moved towards the front and then struck an opposition supporter with his belt twice."

"The Rangers fan he assaulted at the time was engaged in an altercation with other Celtic fans, having left the home section of the stadium and made his way to the away stand."

After the incident, CCTV was reviewed and images were released on social media. Prior was later identified and arrested.

Court outcome

Sentence was deferred pending background reports until next month by Sheriff Louise Arrol KC.
