Tyson Fury: 'I didn't want to live' in new documentary

Heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury reveals he "didn't want to live" during a difficult period in his life, in a new Netflix documentary set for release on Friday, November 27.

The streaming platform has released a trailer for Tyson Fury, a documentary tracing the 38-year-old's journey from childhood to the heights of boxing, focusing on his personal struggles, mental health battles, and career setbacks.

A Deeply Personal Story

A synopsis for the film teases: "Tracing his journey from childhood to the heights of boxing, the film tells the deeply moving story behind Tyson's success in the ring."

Through candid interviews with Tyson, his wife Paris, and his father John, alongside never-before-seen archive footage, it charts the triumphs and setbacks of his career, his struggles with mental health and addiction, the loss of a child, complex family relationships, and the question of what it means to be a man.

Honest Confessions

In the trailer, Tyson admits he was taught to show "no emotions" during his upbringing. He confesses that his 2015 bout against Wladimir Klitschko became an "obsession" that ultimately triggered a tough period in his life.

In a later scene, the boxer says: "I'd achieved all my childhood dreams but my whole point of existence had been taken away. I didn't want to live." His father John reveals: "The affect it had on him was far deeper than I could ever imagine."

Paris adds: "The Tyson that I knew was gone. And I was so scared."

What to Expect

The heavyweight champion goes on to say: "The Gypsy King, no matter what you chuck at him, he will overcome it. But it wasn't about boxing, it was about trying to get well again."

The documentary arrives months after At Home with the Furys was renewed for a third season on Netflix. The platform confirmed in August that the family show is in production and expected to air next year, covering daughter Venezuela's wedding to Noah Price and Tyson's preparation for a return to the ring against Makhmudov ahead of a showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Tyson Fury will be available to stream on Netflix from November 27.
