The first season of ‘The Testaments’, the sequel series to ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, concluded with a dramatic finale that left viewers with a major revelation about Daisy’s parentage. According to creator Bruce Miller, the show is currently being written for a second season, though no release date has been announced.
In the finale, Agnes (Chase Infiniti) learns that her biological mother is June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), the leader of the Mayday resistance. This discovery, while not explicitly stated to Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd), hints at a growing awareness within Agnes. Miller explained that this knowledge ‘turns up the temperature of that pot quite a bit’, setting the stage for her eventual rebellion.
Meanwhile, Daisy (Lucy Halliday) chose to return to Gilead undercover, sacrificing her chance at freedom. Along with Agnes and Shunammite (Rowan Blanchard), she faces the prospect of being a ‘green plum’ ripe for marriage. Elisabeth Moss described the trio’s determined walk through the school as ‘inspiring’ and ‘emotional’, highlighting their resilience despite immense stakes.
Agnes’s journey has been particularly tumultuous: she lost her marriage prospect after revealing her assault by Dr. Grove (Randal Edwards) to her fiancé, Commander Weston (Reed Diamond). This act of honesty left her as ‘damaged goods’ but also saved her friend Becka (Mattea Conforti) from a forced marriage. Miller noted that Agnes is now navigating the social fallout, but her newfound independence is a sign of strength.
