Science fiction war film enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend as The Predator airs on Channel 4 on Sunday, February 15, at 12.30am. However, for those unwilling to stay awake until the small hours, there is an even better option: streaming Aliens on Disney+.
Aliens, directed by James Cameron, is a direct sequel to Ridley Scott's 1979 film and follows Lt Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) as she accompanies a team of marines to the colony on LV-426. The official synopsis states that upon arrival, the marines find only one survivor, a nine-year-old girl named Newt (Carrie Henn), and soon realise they are no match for the hundreds of aliens that have invaded.
Fans have praised Aliens extensively on IMDb. One enthusiast described it as 'as near to being perfect as any I have ever seen', while another called it 'one of the most thrilling films ever' and a third branded it a 'masterpiece' and an 'all-time favourite'. One reviewer gushed: 'It's nearly perfect in every way: storyline, characters, menacing threat, suspense, action, direction, music, emotion, etc. To me this is not just a film, it is an experience.'
In contrast, The Predator (2018) holds a low 34% score on Rotten Tomatoes, whereas Aliens boasts a near-flawless 94%. Aliens is readily available for Disney+ subscribers to stream at their leisure.
