Netflix viewers have only a few weeks left to watch the critically acclaimed crime thriller 'Ripper Street', which has been described by some fans as 'better than Sherlock'. The BBC co-production, which aired from 2012 to 2016, will be removed from the streaming platform on March 25.
Set in London's East End six months after the final Jack the Ripper murder, the series follows Detective Inspector Edmund Reid, played by Succession star Matthew Macfadyen, and his colleague Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake, portrayed by Game of Thrones actor Jerome Flynn. Together, they navigate the criminal underworld of Victorian London, with each new murder sparking fears that the Ripper may have returned.
The show boasts a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with one critic calling it 'a ridiculously underrated Victorian crime thriller with writing so deft and nimble it takes your breath away'. Fans have also heaped praise on the series, with one viewer claiming to have finished all five seasons in just a few days, a feat they had never accomplished even for Peaky Blinders.
Another fan compared the show favourably to Game of Thrones, while a third stated: 'Ripper Street is better than Sherlock. Plot has many twists and turns but most amazing is the depth of each character and their different shades.' With the clock ticking, viewers are urged to catch the series before it disappears from Netflix.
