Nicolas Cage will reprise his role as Spider-Man Noir in a new live-action series titled 'Noir', ordered by MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video. The show, set in 1930s New York, follows an ageing and down-on-his-luck private investigator forced to confront his past as the city's only superhero.
Cage previously voiced the character in the Oscar-winning animated film 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse'. This marks his first regular television role. The series was announced ahead of Amazon's upfront presentation in New York.
The project is co-created by Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. They developed it with the 'Into the Spider-Verse' team of Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal, all executive producers. Harry Bradbeer will direct the first two episodes.
Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, said: 'Expanding the Marvel universe with Noir is a uniquely special opportunity.' Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios, added: 'We are absolutely thrilled to have Nicolas Cage starring in this series.'
'Noir' is the second Sony-Marvel project greenlit at Amazon, following 'Silk: Spider Society'. Sony controls over 900 Spider-Man-related characters and has released films including 'Venom', 'Morbius', and 'Madame Web'.
