Disney+ has released the first trailer for 'Alice and Steve', a new comedy series starring Nicola Walker and Jemaine Clement. The show, described as a 'wrong-com', explores the fallout when Alice's best friend Steve begins a romantic relationship with her daughter.
The story begins after a late-night chat turns into a romantic encounter between Steve and Alice's 26-year-old daughter Izzy, played by Yali Topol Margalith. Izzy has just moved back home following a breakup, and the new couple decides to confess to a shocked Alice.
Walker's character struggles to accept that her daughter is dating a much older man who is also her best friend. The two former friends enter a petty feud, with Alice expressing her contempt in a darkly humorous phone call, telling Steve: 'I hope you fall out of your window and get pierced in the heart by your railing and then no one comes to your funeral.'
Meanwhile, Steve and Izzy navigate their age-gap relationship, facing cross-generational misunderstandings. When Steve meets Izzy's 20-something friends, they whisper 'He's so old!' and his attempts to act cool only make him look older, reminiscent of the 'Steve Buscemi on 30 Rock' meme.
The cast also includes Joel Friel as Alice's husband Daniel, who barely hides his hatred for Steve. The series is created by Sophie Goodhart of 'Sex Education' fame and produced by Clerkenwell Films, the studio behind Netflix's 'Baby Reindeer'.
'Alice and Steve' will stream on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland and on Hulu in the US from 8 June.
