The makers of hit shows Heated Rivalry and Ozark are joining forces for a new Netflix period drama titled Alexander. The series, described as a 'ruthless' historical drama, is based on Annabel Lyon's novel The Golden Mean.
Canadian actor and creator Jacob Tierney, best known for the hockey romance series Heated Rivalry, is partnering with Jason Bateman, who starred in Arrested Development and directed episodes of Ozark. Bateman will serve as executive producer on the project.
According to Netflix, the drama begins as the Athenian empire crumbles and Aristotle arrives in Macedonia to tutor a volatile young prince, Alexander. The story explores palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war, and ruthless ambitions, shaping an empire and altering history.
Tierney expressed his excitement, saying he fell in love with Lyon's book years ago and has been dreaming of telling this story. Jinny Howe, Netflix's head of US and Canada scripted series, praised Tierney's vision, calling him one of the most exciting creative voices working today.
The Golden Mean, published in 2010, was hailed as a marvellously reimagined look at Alexander the Great's youth. Alexander the Great, son of King Philip II, used charisma and ruthless tactics to conquer the largest empire the world had ever seen before his death at age 32.
