All 371 episodes of The Walking Dead and its six spin-off series will soon be streaming exclusively on Netflix UK, after the platform struck a deal with AMC Global Media for global rights.
Netflix has been the exclusive streaming home of the show in the US since 2011, but the new agreement extends availability to the UK, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. The entire collection, including Fear The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and Tales Of The Walking Dead, will launch on the platform next year.
A nearly 15-year partnership
'Audiences have discovered and loved The Walking Dead on Netflix for nearly 15 years, and the show continues to attract new fans,' said Lori Conkling, Netflix's vice president of licensing. 'We're excited to partner with AMC Global Media to continue to expand that access to more audiences around the world and bring the entirety of The Walking Dead Universe to Netflix.'
The story and the cast
Based on the comic book created by Robert Kirkman and artist Tony Moore, The Walking Dead follows a group of survivors trying to find safety in what remains of the USA after a zombie plague outbreak. Led by former sheriff's deputy Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln), the group quickly realises that the real threat is their fellow survivors rather than the cannibalistic Walkers.
The series ran for 11 seasons from 2011 to 2022, with a cast that at various points included Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
