Netflix has released a new true crime documentary, The Truth and Tragedy of Moriah Wilson, detailing the 2022 murder of professional cyclist Moriah Wilson and the extraordinary lengths her killer, Kaitlin Armstrong, went to evade capture.
Wilson, 25, was found fatally shot three times at a friend's house in Austin, Texas, on the night of May 11, 2022. She had been staying there ahead of a race. The documentary features the heartbreaking 911 call made by friend Caitlin Cash, who returned home and desperately tried to save her.
After refusing to cooperate with police, Armstrong fled the United States using her sister's passport to escape to Costa Rica. She also underwent plastic surgery in a desperate attempt to cement her false identity, before a job application brought her plans crashing down.
Armstrong was convicted of first-degree murder in November 2023 and sentenced to 90 years in prison, eligible for parole after 30 years. The documentary includes emotional interviews with Wilson's devastated parents and footage from the trial showing Armstrong's vehicle circling the neighbourhood on the night of the murder.
