Netflix is set to remove the British period drama Emily, starring Adrian Dunbar, from its platform on 22 October. The film, which was added to the streaming service only six months ago, will no longer be available on Netflix and is not currently offered on any other streaming platform.
The 2022 film, written and directed by Frances O'Connor, features a cast including Emma Mackey, Fionn Whitehead, Gemma Jones, Alexandra Dowling, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. It offers a partly fictionalised account of novelist Emily Brontë's life, focusing on how her relationship with William Weightman inspired her classic novel Wuthering Heights.
Emily has received critical acclaim, with Digital Spy awarding it 4/5 and calling it a 'riveting feature debut'. The film holds an 87% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 134 reviews. IndieWire described it as 'a ravishing period drama', while The Guardian noted it 'empowers Brontë’s sometimes turbulent emotions'.
Other films leaving Netflix in October include Van Helsing, Schindler's List, The Truman Show, and Cast Away. Meanwhile, Dunbar has given a positive update on the seventh season of Line of Duty, expressing hope that production will begin next year.
