Netflix has added the 2010 spy thriller Salt, starring Angelina Jolie, to its UK streaming library. The film follows Evelyn Salt, a CIA operative accused of being a Russian sleeper agent, who goes on the run to prove her innocence.
Directed by Phillip Noyce, the film also features Liev Schreiber and Chiwetel Ejiofor. Despite a predictable plot, the movie holds a 'fresh' rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics praising Jolie's performance and the film's entertainment value.
The Guardian described it as 'pacy, smart, subversive' and noted that viewers won't mind its far-fetched nature. The film earned an Oscar nomination for Best Sound Mixing at the 83rd Academy Awards.
Interestingly, the role was originally written for a male lead, with Tom Cruise in talks before passing. Jolie reportedly joked about wanting to be James Bond, leading to her casting.
