Netflix has added all seven seasons of the acclaimed thriller series The Mentalist to its streaming library, more than a decade after the show concluded. The series, starring Simon Baker as Patrick Jane, became available on the platform on March 1.
The show follows Patrick Jane, an independent consultant for the California Bureau of Investigation, who uses his sharp observational skills and understanding of human psychology to solve crimes. Despite claiming to be a psychic, Jane's methods are unorthodox and often disregard standard procedure.
A central storyline involves Jane's quest to track down the serial killer Red John, who murdered his wife and daughter. This narrative thread weaves through much of the series, adding depth to the procedural format.
The first season received mixed reviews but was praised for containing "all of the key components of the perfect crime investigation series," according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The final season, which aired in 2015, earned an 83% score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Writing for Entertainment Weekly, Jeff Jensen noted the show honoured its fans, while Darragh McManus of The Guardian called it "one of the best things to appear on TV in a long time."
