ITV drama 'The Affair', which has been dubbed 'the best TV show ever' by fans, will soon stream for free on ITVX. The series, originally airing on Showtime in the US from 2014 to 2019, stars Dominic West and Ruth Wilson as Noah Solloway and Alison Bailey, who begin an extramarital affair while married to their respective spouses.
Created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Lev, the show explores the emotional and psychological fallout of infidelity, as well as a criminal act that brings the characters back together. With an 85% Rotten Tomatoes score and 7.9 out of 10 on IMDb, 'The Affair' has won multiple awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Television Series – Drama.
ITV acquired the programme earlier this year, releasing all 53 episodes on ITVX, starting with series 1-3. Now, after a delay, series four will be available from Sunday 5th July. The new season finds Noah, Helen (Maura Tierney), Alison and Cole (Joshua Jackson) in separate worlds, estranged from each other and drifting from their origins, as each enters a new relationship and must decide whether to leave the past behind.
Fans have praised the show for its addictive storytelling and superb cast. One viewer on IMDb called it 'the best tv show ever', while another noted its unique narrative style: 'The plot unfolds slowly by telling the story like each character sees it... You never really know who tells the truth or lies.' A third added: 'This show is unbelievably beautiful... it always leaves you wanting more.'
Seasons 1-3 of 'The Affair' are currently available on ITVX, with season 4 dropping in July.
