HBO has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, confirming a premiere date of Christmas 2026. The two-minute preview introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
The trio, cast after an extensive open search for British actors aged nine to 11, will lead the series across multiple seasons in near real time. The first season adapts J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, with Rowling serving as executive producer.
The trailer opens with Harry at his aunt and uncle's home, where Aunt Petunia, played by Bel Powley, tells him: 'You think you’re something special? There is nothing special about you.' It then shows Harry with Rubeus Hagrid, played by Nick Frost, at a railway station, running towards Platform 9 3/4.
Scenes of Harry arriving at Hogwarts, walking on the quidditch pitch, and having a snowball fight follow. The trailer ends with Harry, Hermione, and Ron on the Hogwarts Express, where Ron asks: 'Are you really Harry Potter?' Harry nods, and Ron makes a scar gesture on his forehead.
Additional cast includes Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Warwick Davis reprising his role as Filius Flitwick.
