Netflix has officially confirmed that its popular comedy-drama series Emily in Paris will be returning for a sixth season. The announcement came shortly after the show's fifth season debuted in December, featuring the return of star Lily Collins, 36, as the titular marketing executive.
A Sweet Announcement Met With Mixed Reactions
The streaming giant revealed the renewal in a short video posted to YouTube. The clip showed Emily's character walking into a room through a classic French balcony window. The camera then panned out to reveal a croissant adorned with a candle shaped like the number six. Netflix captioned the video, "Home sweet home. Emily in Paris is returning for Season 6," adding the playful tagline, "Paris is always a good idea!"
However, the comment section beneath the announcement video was not filled with the expected excitement from Emily in Paris devotees. Instead, it was flooded with requests from a different fanbase entirely. Dozens of viewers used the platform to demand that Netflix change its release strategy for the upcoming anime series Steel Ball Run.
Anime Fans Rally for Weekly Episodes
Steel Ball Run, the seventh part of the long-running JoJo's Bizarre Adventure franchise, is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in March. Fans of the series, which follows the Joestar family saga from Hirohiko Araki's beloved manga, are petitioning for the episodes to be released weekly. This would mark a return to the format used for earlier parts of the series, which Netflix has since moved away from in favour of dropping entire batches of episodes at once.
Ignoring the Emily in Paris news, one commenter wrote, "Netflix make Steel ball run weekly," a sentiment echoed by many others. "PLEASE make steel ball run weekly," pleaded another. A third stated, "We need weekly steel ball run," highlighting the strong preference for a scheduled, episodic rollout that builds anticipation, rather than a full-season drop.
The new season is set in the 19th-century United States and follows former jockey Johnny Joestar, who teams up with outlaw Gyro Zeppeli for a high-stakes race. Director Yasuhiro Kimura expressed his team's passion for the project, stating they are "pounding with excitement" to bring the adaptation to life.
Continuity Error Spotted in Emily's Latest Adventure
Meanwhile, sharp-eyed fans of Emily in Paris spotted a glaring editing error just minutes into the new fifth season. In the first episode, Emily, having relocated to Rome to be with love interest Marcello (played by Eugenio Franceschini), joins him on an autumnal walk in the countryside.
While she is seen wearing towering green heels that become ruined in the mud, a brief birds-eye-view shot shows her suddenly wearing knee-high green wellies, identical to other characters. The scene then cuts back to her struggling in the heels again. One fan on Reddit pointed out the "continuity error," noting, "Nice one." Another viewer confirmed they also glimpsed the momentary boot switch.
Despite the hiccup, the series continues to attract a dedicated audience following Emily's professional and romantic trials in Europe. Both Emily in Paris and the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure series are available to stream on Netflix now.
