The Devil's Hour, a psychological horror series with a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, is now available to stream for free on ITVX. The show, which originally debuted on Prime Video in 2022, stars Jessica Raine and Peter Capaldi.
Created by Tom Moran, the series follows social worker Lucy (Raine), who is tormented by horrifying nightmares every night at 3:33am—the titular 'devil's hour', traditionally believed to be a time when supernatural beings are most powerful. Capaldi, 67, known for his role in Doctor Who, plays the mysterious criminal Gideon Shepherd.
The Guardian described the series as 'brilliantly done', while Metro called it the 'best British horror series in decades' in a four-star review. One viewer praised Raine's performance, saying she 'stole the show', while another called the show 'a true hidden gem that deserves mainstream love'.
Raine previously revealed she found it difficult to sleep while filming, waking up at 3:33am alone in a large house. Moran explained that the concept of the Devil's Hour dates back to the 16th century, when the church prohibited activities between 3am and 4am due to fears of witchcraft.
The cast also includes Nikesh Patel, Alex Ferns, Meera Syal, Barbara Marten, and Phil Dunster. Two series have aired so far, with a third on the way.
