A critically acclaimed comedy-drama featuring an impressive ensemble cast is finally set to make its UK debut. American Classic, which premiered in the US last month, will launch on MGM+ (available as a Prime Video add-on) this Saturday, 11th April.
The series stars Kevin Kline as fading Broadway star Richard Bean, who retreats to his family home after a humiliating public breakdown. He reconnects with his former girlfriend Kristen (Laura Linney), now the town's mayor and married to his brother Jon (Jon Tenney), and rediscovers the cherished family theatre where his dreams began.
Two episodes will be released simultaneously, with weekly instalments following until the finale on Saturday, 23rd May. Alongside the central trio, the cast includes Broadway legend Len Cariou, Nell Verlaque, and Tony Shalhoub.
The series has already garnered rapturous responses from US audiences. One IMDb user called it "a standout show," praising the acting, writing, and story. Another described it as "wonderfully entertaining and heartfelt," while a third questioned, "How can you beat this cast?"
Professional critics have also been full of praise, awarding the series an impressive 94 percent Rotten Tomatoes score. Brittany Frederick wrote: "The MGM+ comedy American Classic deserves a standing ovation. It's perfectly cast and written so sincerely... It's some of the best comedy in years."
American Classic continues Saturdays on MGM+ via Prime Video.
