Coronation Street has hinted that Yasmeen Nazir's return to Weatherfield is unlikely in the near future, following a recent update about her granddaughter Alya's plans.
Yasmeen, played by Shelley King, left the cobbles last year to volunteer at a modern slavery charity in London. Before her departure, she transferred her shares in Speed Daal to Leanne Battersby, who now runs the restaurant with Alya.
Alya's Decision to Sell
In Monday's episode, Alya told Leanne she intended to sell her stake in the business, finding it hard to balance with her legal career. She revealed she had spoken to her grandmother about the decision.
"He's right. And I've spoken to my gran about it. Obviously, she's a little bit disappointed, but she's put me in contact with an old friend of hers who might be interested in making us an offer," Alya said.
Yasmeen's History
Yasmeen arrived on the street in 2014 with her first husband Sharif, their son Kal, and grandchildren Alya and Zeedan. After Kal's death in 2015 and discovering Sharif's affair, she later married Geoff Metcalfe, who abused her. She was acquitted of attempted murder after stabbing him in self-defence.
The update comes weeks after newcomer Idris revealed he was Alya's uncle, not cousin. Alya mentioned that Idris had contacts interested in buying, but her gran was insistent she contact her old friend.
