Prince William would reportedly remove Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal titles if he were monarch, according to a royal commentator. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently completed a tour of Australia, described by some as a 'faux royal trip', which included engagements in Melbourne, Canberra, and Sydney.
During the trip, Meghan reportedly earned £120,000 for a 90-minute appearance at a wellness event. The couple's activities drew criticism, with some accusing Meghan of attempting a 'calculated rebrand' following the end of their Netflix deal. The late Queen Elizabeth II had previously told Harry and Meghan they could not be 'half-in, half-out' members of the Royal Family when they left the UK in 2020.
Writing for The Sun, Jane Moore said: 'Prince William, one feels, would remove their titles in a heartbeat given half the chance. But it seems that King Charles, about to embark on a state visit to the States, is perhaps paralysed by his love and responsibility to his troubled youngest son, and maybe a spot of guilt too.'
Moore suggested Harry was 'all too happy to exploit' his father's guilt during a mental health talk in Australia, where he said he hoped his parenting would be an 'upgrade' on his own experience. King Charles, who stripped his brother Prince Andrew of royal titles last year, is believed to be more sympathetic towards Harry and Meghan after the collapse of their Netflix deal.
It is thought Charles may offer an olive branch when Harry visits the UK in summer for an event marking the one-year countdown to the Invictus Games in Birmingham. Meanwhile, Meghan is reportedly determined to recover from the Netflix collapse, regularly reaching out to CEO Ted Sarandos and his wife with gifts including handwritten letters, flowers, and jars of her As Ever jam.
