William 'deeply hurt' by Harry, no reconciliation in sight

Prince William has no intention of engaging with Prince Harry following the Duke of Sussex's public plea for reconciliation, a source close to the Prince of Wales has said.

Speaking to GQ magazine, Harry admitted that part of the reason he and Meghan Markle decided to return to the UK was to be closer to his family. The couple stepped back as senior working royals in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California, where they gave several high-profile interviews, released a Netflix series and published Harry's memoir, Spare, containing allegations about relatives.

Return to the UK

In August, the couple announced they were returning to the UK with their children, Archie and Lilibet. The children are now in their second school after security concerns about the journey to their first choice.

In the interview, Harry said he hoped to build bridges with his family. He said: "Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out. With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile - that's the key point."

William's Response

William and Kate said at the time of Harry's return that they wanted to "look to the future", and friends of the couple said they were keen to avoid "drama" around the return. A source close to William said: "There isn't a world right now where the Prince of Wales can imagine repairing the relationship with his brother. He remains deeply hurt over the many things the Duke of Sussex has said publicly about him and other family members."

The source added that the family is focused on a significant State Visit, commemorating the Aberfan tragedy 60 years ago, and preparations for major royal tours. "He has no intention of engaging with Harry," the source said, adding that responding to Harry's interviews is not a priority for the Prince and Princess of Wales or the King and Queen.
